About Dianna Deeney
From the Production Floor to Strategic Advisor: Why I Understand Your Design Challenges
I've been where your engineers are. And I've seen what consistently trips up product development teams.
My career started on the production floor as an operator, literally making the parts. From there, I moved through process engineering, project engineering, and eventually into quality and reliability engineering for new product development.
That journey taught me something critical: The expensive problems we fought on the factory floor and in customer complaints almost always traced back to decisions made (or not made) during early design.
Engineers weren't failing because they lacked skills. They were failing because they lacked a structured way to:
- Gather cross-functional input early
- Translate diverse knowledge into clear design inputs
- Stay in the problem space long enough to understand what they were really solving
So, I built frameworks to solve it. Not academic theory. Practical tools forged in medical device development and complex manufactured products where mistakes cost millions and regulatory scrutiny is intense.

What Drives Me
I've watched talented engineering teams struggle...not because they lack technical skills, but because they lack a repeatable process for the "fuzzy front end" of product development.
The pattern is always the same:
- Engineers design "in secret" for weeks
- They unveil their solution (the "Ta-Da!")
- Stakeholders tear it apart because it doesn't meet requirements, can't be manufactured, or misses the customer need
- The team goes back to the drawing board, demoralized and behind schedule
This is preventable.
When cross-functional teams work together early—using structured frameworks to explore the problem space before jumping to solutions—everything changes:
- Design churn drops
- Late-stage firefighting decreases dramatically
- Products actually meet customer needs the first time
- Teams build trust instead of resentment
That's why I created the Quality during Design approach and the ADEPT Team Framework and Concept Space Model. These aren't just methodologies. They're tested tools that help teams turn knowledge into actionable design inputs.
My Approach: Practical, not Academic
I don't do theoretical consulting. Every framework, every workshop, every recommendation comes from real-world application in environments where:
- Regulatory compliance isn't optional
- Manufacturing constraints are real
- Customers expect products to work flawlessly
- Budgets and timelines are non-negotiable
My guarantee: If we don't define measurable success metrics upfront, we don't start.
Beyond Work
I live in southeastern Pennsylvania with my family and dog. When I'm not helping engineering teams, you'll find me:
- Heading to the mountains for hiking
- Exploring museums in nearby cities
- At the shore with family
